Kuhn Rikon Can Opener
In our kitchen there are quite a number of electrical gadgets and appliances that we use to make our lives easier but one thing we always keep on hand is our trusted Kuhn Rikon can opener. Having a manual can opener is one thing we always keep around because of things like emergency situations or when we are out camping and we take canned goods along for the trip. Yeah, I am one of those types of people who just must have the new, improved, and automated everything but I also have that other side of me which knows that we must always keep “primitive” enough so we don’t fall apart during things like storms that cause prolonged power outages. My wife calls me a “survivalist” but I just like to think that I’m being smart and prepared. Anyway, I’m beginning to go off topic a bit!
Back to the Kuhn Rikon can opener.
When we were out shopping one day I came across the Safety Lidlifter Can Opener by Kuhn Rikon and thought it would be a great, compact, stylish opener to keep around the home or in our camping sacks. So being the man I am I just had to have another tool even though we already have an electric can opener in our kitchen that does all the heavy lifting for us. One of the appealing things about this Kuhn Rikon can opener is that as I was reading the packaging was that after you have fully cut open the lid of the can, the lid does not fall into the can and its contents! To me this was great because I always hated poking around with my finger around those sharp edges most openers leave. The Kuhn Rikon can opener also eliminates those dangerous, sharp edges too.
I also found that it doesn’t matter if you are right or left handed as the Kuhn Rikon can opener was designed for ambidextrous use. My wife is actually left handed so that is a plus in my book. Funny because one of the reasons we first bought our electric can opener was because she was left handed and most can openers we found in stores were built for right-handed people.
One thing I was curious though about this little Kuhn Rikon can opener was if it would work well with a variety of different sized cans. So, it’s first test was during dinner that night when we were making spaghetti. Opening those small tomato paste cans was a breeze, no issues at all despite the small circular can. Next I tried it out a #10 can of corn that we were going to use at a large family get together. Sure enough, no problems with the Kuhn Rikon can opener again.
In the end, I’d have to say that the Kuhn Rikon can opener was a good investment. It is very easy to use, the crank turns well and design is comfortable for a male or female sized hands. The safety features are also good to have so no one has to get cut by sharp edges or start fiddling around trying to get the lid to come out of the can either. It is stylish and doesn’t take up much space either.
